Three Basic Steps Toward Getting Your Concealed Carry Permit

Unfortunately, the world can be a scary place these days. Many citizens feel that they need to find ways to protect themselves. For some, this means obtaining a concealed carry permit that allows them to have their gun with them at all times. If you are interested in getting a permit for yourself, you will need to follow these three basic steps.

Know Your State’s Requirements

Conceal carry laws vary from state to state. You can research your state’s laws and regulations online. No matter where you live, you must be 21 and have never been convicted of a felony. A background check will be done, so be honest about your history when filling out paperwork or answering questions.

Concealed Carry Classes

Many states require you to pass a gun safety class before applying. These are typically eight-hour courses with a qualified instructor. Active and reserve military members may be excused from taking this class.

The Application Process

Submit your completed application form for your individual state with a photocopy of your driver’s license and a passport quality picture. A small fee is also required. You should receive your permit within 30 to 60 days. Use this time to shop for undercover clothes.

Once you have met all of your state’s requirements for submitting an application for a concealed carry permit and taken the proper classes, you will be well on your way to being allowed to legally carry your gun with you. Keep in mind that there are certain places where weapons are not allowed, even with this permit. As long as you familiarize yourself with your state’s current policies, you will be okay.
